She evokes the childhood nostalgia by making Generasi 90an book

IF YOU COULD INTRODUCE YOURSELF AS ANYONE, WHO WOULD YOU BE?

As Marchella FP, the Creator & Creative Director of Generasi 90an, Proud to Posit It & MC. I honestly want to be acknowledge for my creativity in the area that I get involved in right now. For instance, my entrepreneurship, books, social medias and numerous workshops. I hope people notice me from my creation that can actually be useful for them.

GENERASI 90AN WAS YOUR FINAL PROJECT, RIGHT? WHAT TRIGGERS YOU CONTINUE THE PROJECT AND DO YOU USE SOME RESEARCH METHODOLOGY?

Yeah, I was majoring Design Komunikasi Visual back then, and Generasi 90an was my final project. I was actually got the inspiration from Buya Hamka, who pours all his idea into a book. Since I’m a graphic designer, I thought maybe I could make some visual creation that I like plus something that I can be a legacy for my kids. From those, I finally got my Generasi 90an as the theme, in 2012.

As it goes on, I met a lot of extraordinary people who is now involved in this project. Start from thesis, questionnaire up to twitter. Like any other publisher story, I got rejected few times, but we keep on working on. Until one day, we found the perfectly suitable publisher who share the same mission, and from there we all start working along. Not only book, we also dive in several events, we made some merchandiser, community, social media platforms and now, independent company.

WHAT IS THE MOST POWERFUL SOCIAL MEDIA FOR YOU?

Umm, we started by using twitter, but I guess now, Instagram has a lot more power. Don’t you think?

HAVE YOU EVER RECEIVED NEGATIVE COMMENTS ABOUT GENERASI 90AN?

As I recall, most of the comments are positive. I actually have one touching moment about this book. This was originally the story of one of our team who is also work as Gojek driver. He told me, once he got a request of delivering the Generasi 90an book to an old lady age around 70s. He was curious and asked was this book for her grandchild? And shockingly her answered was “No, this book is for me, I fail to remember what happened around the 90s era. I wanted to tell my grandkids about that era, as far as I can recall, a lot of interesting thing happened there”

IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT MAKES THIS BOOK IN A HUGE SUCCESS?

First, I think it was a blessing that God handover the idea to me. Second, this project drops at the perfect time. Exactly where Y Generation at their busiest day of work or uni, which I’m pretty sure they are going to miss their childhood. Perhaps this book can help them taking a stroll down to the memory lane. The third, last but not least is prayer from my momma.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST HISTORIC MEMORY OF THE 90S?

The way people interact and also games we had back then. Although, in my personal opinion, the thing that drastically change is the communication method people use these days. Its not time consuming, we don’t need to write letters or queuing at the public telephone.

DO YOU HAVE ANY NOTE FOR 90S GENERATION? AND FOR THE MILINEAL GENERATION?

Okay, for the 90's generation: “Cheer up on your hard day of work or uni-life, I hope you can produce some creative creation to help you reminisce this moment during your old days later”

As for the millennial generation, “In my second book, one of the most important message is for you to respect every process that happened, because that matters. Although I know in this era, everything you wanted can be achieved within seconds. But sometimes, in order to learn something, you must understand the process”
